Why is it people with big trucks don't feel they need to park properly at the mall? The mall parking lot is busy enough without them parking like jerks

Its because their not capable of parking a truck properly. They don't have the skill.

I just wish the cops would ticket them for keeping it on so maybe they wouldn't.

I drive a F150. When parking properly my mirrors are directly over the yellow lines. That leaves little to no room when someone parks beside you. At the mall I have come across cars that feel the need to park directly against my door leaving me about 6" of open door space to try and get my fat arse into my truck. I have come back to busted tail lights from someone backing into me then taking off. These vehicles have a turning radius from 46-52 ft to try and park. I usually back into a spot as it gives me more flexible turning radius. Now after experiencing the dicks of Brandon costing me money in deductibles for hit and run, plus the unknown thrill of watching a fat guy trying to squeeze through a 6" door opening, I will always be "that guy". BUT!! I will be that guy at the end of the parking lot taking up 2 spaces. So be it. Since doing that I have had (knock on wood) zero hit and runs, plus have enough room to properly open my door and put groceries inside the vehicle.

Only big truck I have see a Ford Focus on the weekend park the same way so he has no parking skill either and same as all them with the tuners they park like jerks as well so it not just big trucks it's everyone

I see everyone's point in this conversation. I drive a "larger" vehicle and quite often find it hard to maneuver into the parking spots that seem to be getting smaller and smaller. The mall parking will lose much real estate to the new restaurants so it will get worse before it gets better!  
 
BTW...my second vehicle is a bigger vehicle...lol

First off I don't feel it has to do with skill. What it has to do with is wheelbase, anytime you add distance between the front and rear wheels you will take away from your ability to turn sharply. Look at your riding lawn mower, you can nearly turn on a dime, now compare that to even a sub compact car, turning radius changes drastically, and for those who doubt it, give it a try. Even with swinging wide on a turn there is not enough room in the average parking lot to end up making a square turn, and god help us if anyone suggested angle parking.

I understand the spots are getting smaller. I feel you should still do your best to make it fit or walk a little further if necessary. It comes down to being lazy allot of time I think.

I drive a small truck that has an extended cab but not a double cab (smaller back seat). The doors open opposite so if someone parks beside me I cannot open both doors to get a cart beside me to unload. I make a point to park away from others and to walk the length of the parking lot. I will usually pick a spot that is wide open. 9 times out of 10 when I come out there will be someone parked on both sides of me even though there are many open spots. I have started parking in a spot where there is a shopping cart beside me because people are too lazy to get out to move it so I know no one will be parked there. My point is even if you park away from the crowd, there will always be someone who feels the need to park right beside you. It’s a no win situation.

How can they ticket a person when there’s no law on the books about removing the receiver when not in use.

Yup I will continue to take up 2 spots. Now maybe if everyone parked like you I would have a different opinion. Or if you would like to pay for my deductibles parking between the lines fine by me too. But truth of the matter is not everyone parks like you and I cannot keep shelling out money for hit and runs, dented doors, etc. Call me what you want but I really could care less. And no I don't have a second vehicle can't afford it....wait maybe we could carpool to the mall with yours and see the perfect parkers lol.

My car is going to the auto body shop tomorrow, as I came out of Superstore and a lady in a car was putting her groceries away and banged my car leaving a huge dent and scratch.  
 
Luckily I walked up and saw it all, got the phone out and took pictures, showed the lady...she gave me her name and number and is paying $468 to get it fixed.

I follow the rules, park straight, between the lines and never take up two parking spots.  
 
it is called being parking properly. And parking yesterday, I still had to walk a long way to the store. Not like I was trying to find the closest spot to the store.

During the big snow storm last winter, I seen many small cars being pulled out by these big trucks. I was at the Walmart mall watching several of these so called a$$ h0le truck drivers spend hours pulling car after car out of the drifts.  
Ok, so they need more room to park, does that mean they deserve to be treated as jerks.  
Sadly, hate posts that target everyone with the same blanket can cause people to do things like smash tail lights and park to close.

I agree with you that us large truck owners/drivers shouldn't occupy two spots, it is not to be assumed that we "tend to have a second vehicle" as that is absolutely NOT the case.  
 
We own large extended cab, dual wheel 1 ton trucks...they are simply not a maneuverable as a honda civic. Saying that, we make a point of taking up ONE SPOT. It is the people who park too close around on all sides when we have been boxed in with no wiggle room.  
 
Prime example is I got boxed in at Superstore this summer, was sitting in driver's seat, another truck parked next to me, his window was down-he didn't know I was sitting in my truck-says to his passenger "this guy is gonna be real pissed I boxed him him". To his surprise I rolled down the window and said "yah, I'm good" and had to get someone to assist me in backing out of my spot on a 8 point turn just so that I didn't hit anyone else's vehicle let alone mine.

How many of the people complaining about trucks ask people to deliver items or occasionally need other assistance from an “entitled” truck owner. Also if it keeps my autopac down. Take the two spots.

I’m one of those people who park my truck in 2 or more spots You know if ya don’t like it park somewhere else there more then the second spot I took up For any one who isn’t smart enough to figure it out. This means I don’t want you near my vehicle with yours cause your probably one that hit your door in to my vehicle

Was this another vehicle that you parked so close to that they couldn’t use their doors.  
You should be very careful when you admit you are intentionally blocking people by parking too close, it could be considered insurance fraud.

That is the biggest thing. Hence backing in is much easier at times when available. It isn't just a problem here. This article was 2 years ago in BC.

Now I really doubt that parking spots here are much different. What I don't understand is places like Canadian Tire repaved their lots and painted in lines. Why not cater to the trucks more? Look at any given time and from what I have seen is majority is trucks. Why not give them the room to park. Seems each truck takes about 1.5 spots anyway. Paint the lines as such.  
Angle parking, can't remember where in the states but visiting ND and found a mall that had angle parking.....God that was a dream!

it wouldn't be considered insurance fraud, that would be extremely hard to prove.  
 
However, it blows my mind Brenda actually admits that she parks between the lines in a designated spot, regardless if she can foresee damage being done to her or the other persons "big truck" due to the fact they cannot open the doors with out hitting her vehicle.  
 
Why would someone park so close, knowing damage could be caused to the vehicle? That's just stupid.

I do agree with you.  
But if you admit to doing something that could intentionally cause damage to your car and then you claim insurance, you are on the edge of fraud.

Bigger things need more room...it’s not a hard concept to understand...at least I didn’t think it was??  
 
I can understand the frustration when you see a small vehicle that is parked stupid but if it’s a larger vehicle, is it really that hard to understand why? I’m not saying it can’t be done but sometimes I imagine it is really hard for large trucks to park perfect. Sometimes they have to park badly because of the other vehicles around them but then that vehicle leaves and makes them look like they parked that way on purpose.  
 
Even just driving our small truck that has doors that open opposite and our mid size car having kids in carseats, parking can sometimes be a nuisance. Surely, we can all cut each other some slack...we all know that some parking lots have small spaces and I guarantee that none of us are perfect ALL the time

Parking at Superstore - when I parked there was no one on either side of me and I was parked properly...and this was around 8:30 a.m., when there is hardly anyone there.  
 
Parking yesterday at the mall (was anyone else there), I drove around 10 minutes looking for a spot and finally found one, that my vehicle fit into, between the yellow lines and I was very careful getting out of my drivers door when I got out. It was an empty spot that I fit between the lines, pulled in, backed up so I could straighten out, all good. My husband has a big truck and he always parks as far away as possible. For one, it is usually easier to park and easier to get out of. But, we would have not taken his truck to the mall yesterday.  
 
 
 
Another limttle trick is to fold in your mirrors when parking is tight, helps when people are walking between vehicles.  
 
I never intentionally blocked anybody, they still had room to back out. I was beside them, not in front or behind them. I parked my vehicle both times in a parking spot, straight and between the lines. I myself have had to crawl across the passenger seat before. But that is the way it is at the mall right now. Big trucks, small parking spaces, very busy, park far away, but so is everyone else.  
 
I could take pictures of my parking between the two lines, being able to back out easily....nothing illegal, I parked between the lines and straight in both instances. Never would I kick lights, break mirrors....that is beyond ridiculous.

People in small cars can call a person in a truck lazy just because the person in the truck got there first.  
 
Shake you heads folks, blocking people in and smashing there taillights because you drive a small car and deserve to park closer. “Really”

I appreciate those people with bigger vehicles that park a little further out of the way. The people I was originally commenting on are those that try to "bully" their way into a spot. I have driven all sizes of vehicles and if I don't fit I park at the end of the lot out of the way. And yes if you feel your vehicle is worth more or more important than others and you deserve two spots maybe you to should park at the end of the lot.....?

Have you ever seen an entire row of cars and trucks parked outside the lines. Do you ever wonder if the car or truck that is in two spots started the problem or is a victim of someone else’s elite attitude.  
Unless you know all the facts, Try not to act too privileged next time you see a vehicle parked in a way that displeases your high standards.  
 
I might suggest parking yourself at the outside area and walking to where your going, it might give you time to think about what’s really important in life.
