Trust or just plain stupidity....

First of all I don't post much on ebrandon and don't like to open my personal life to online communities but this is one experience that I just couldn't let be quietly forgotten.
About a month or so ago I had problems with my vehicle and it was basically a lost cause. So in an effort to find something affordable I responded to ads in the ebrandon classifieds with vehicles for sale and pitched them my request to make payments over a span of two months. I knew it was a long shot but I did get a reply. The woman told me she had a 1998 van and long story short an agreement was made that I would make payments totalling $1400 dollars in two months. During this time the van would remain in her name and I would pay the registration and this would also give her time to make an appt to get the windshield fixed which was the only thing she said it needed to be safetied and I would be paying for. There were some concerns about leaks that I was also told would be gladly taken care of and her husband was a mechanic. I had the van for a week and we ofcourse began to experience all the problems. I made the second payment that week with her promise that the repairs would be taken care of that weekend. They didn't show. That was $800 in a week. For some that may not be much but that is something that we pinched and stretched to put together. When they did show they were not happy about having to have to do the repairs so they said they would take the van back and return my money. She says, my husband cannot get that ammount out this late in the day and he will bring it by in the morning. I said I had no problem with that and the van would not be used/moved by me. They could get it in the morning. They said they wanted the van that evening and then phoned the police to see if I could do anything about it (I didn't know this until later). B/c it was still in her name they couldn't stop them from taking the van. They took it and have not made any attempts to return the money.
Anyways this left my family in dire straits financially for a month. The vehicle was needed for an employment opportunity that would have helped to pay for the van and feed the family. Yes there are people, families, that struggle with less than 800 a month. I was stupid to include this purchase with such a small budget but also stupid for trusting. This all happened as my children and grandchildren watched. I really didn't think something like that would happen. She brought some men with her. I thought they were the mechanics. When I called the police they just said it sounds like she has done this before. She knew what she was doing when she took your money. I don't ever wish bad to happen to people but I believe it all takes care in due time..some call it Karma. So I will enjoy my walking until I can save and then purchase. Thats a vent I guess.
