So I'm tired of trying to date in this town, as everyone knows everybody. Or if you don't know someone, someone you know will know who is some person you're wondering about.  
 
Is Brandon really that small?

It really is that small. I’m married but I can’t imagine dating in this city. Your right, everybody knows everybody

I have never had an issue getting interviews or offers and I’m not from here or friends with anyone important.  
 
Spelling and grammar in your resume matter, so do valid references. Always ask people to be a reference beforehand because if the phone call results in a surprised pause you won’t get the job.  
 
As far as dating, only the serial daters have a reputation here or anywhere. Go with your gut. If they haven’t been able to see their kids or exes in years huge red flag! Check the court registry for their name before you get involved.

I don’t see why it matters that people know each other, unless you’ve earned a reputation as a person to be avoided.

A couple years ago I met a wonderful lady, we coffee d or desert dated for over a year before we started dating. We both have large amounts of people that we know. some are common friends and others are hers or mine, this has had no effect on our relationship, if anything it has made it stronger.

Do yourself a favor and move somewhere else!  
 
I got tired of exactly what you are referring to. Everyone knows everyone, or your post should say. Everyone thinks they know everyone.  
You go out with someone on a date. Things seem okay, but then the person you just went out with talks to someone else and their whole opinion changes of you based on what someone else doesn't know. Then there's getting employment. If you don't know someone you may as well forget it. Comes back to: Not what you know, but who you know in Brandon.  
 
That's why I left this City in 1988 and never looked back.

I think the "average" people have the most problem in Brandon. By average, I mean the people that aren't totally outgoing and those that aren't total hermits.  
 
There are enough friendly folks is Brandon that you can meet, socially or romantically, if you really put yourself out there a lot. The people that are like that do not notice the barriers as they crash right through them naturally. The hermits don't care and make no effort to address the barriers. In fact, they may naturally make the barriers harder than they are.  
 
It is those people that can/will only put themselves out there a reasonable amount that have the most difficulty. The reason for this is that these type of people generally require a bit of a crutch to fully integrate into a clique environment like Brandon. The knowing someone favorably is the most common crutch.  
 
Unfortunately, it is probably 2/3 to 3/4 of people that fit into this middle ground where Brandon can prove difficult. And, no, I don't have any stats to support that claim. It is just observation and personal experience.

My husband and I met online. We were both living in Winnipeg at the time.  
 
In the end, it turns out he used to live a few blocks over from my ex, I already knew his best friend, I worked with people who knew his dad and/or knew his family growing up, and a few other connections.  
 
So even in a city of 700,000+ and meeting online, we had a bunch of common connections.  
 
So, totally not surprised about Brandon. Heck, I have quite a few people that I'm acquainted with that I know through 5 or 6 different channels/people/events/groups/activities.

I am not sure what part of my post could be construed as being negative towards hermits but, if it came across that way, my apologies. That certainly wasn't the intent as I am a pretty devout hermit myself lol

Its not the fact of everybody knows everybody its that our options are limited and most guys just want sex. Especially if you find them on POF in Brandon. It's annoying.

I would like to suggest that the pickiness goes both ways.
