I am sure lots of people in this area are wearing them - just look around next time you're out. If it is on the right hand and the heart is pointed out, go start a conversation about it. ;)

Is unless you are aware of what the claddagh ring actually means, you wouldn't be able to tell if a person is single. Yes, worn on a certain finger, on a certain hand, a certain way, but there is also the way to wear it showing your married, your engaged, and your single. I love the claddagh ring, and yes it would definitely be a conversation starter, but again, you would need to know what the ring actual means.
And no, not a lot of people in this area wear them. There is only one store in Brandon that sells them, and only a couple in Winnipeg. I've been trying to get one ordered in for many years. So unless you want to pay 400$ to order a ring to say you are single, in the hopes that someone out there will see it on the right finger, and know what it means, I would suggest another solution.
I unfortunately have not heard about the single ring thing, but I'm pretty sure it would be a heck of a lot easier if there was such a thing. Good luck to the op, and hopefully they find what it is they are looking for.
