The Rotary and Lions have clubs for younger members so you are not stuck with the old fogies. Prairie Pride Lions meet on Friday mornings before work to discuss what they will be doing. The Rotary has a group but I am not familiar with their information. I think they refer to the younger group as Roteract.  
 
When volunteering, find something that you are passionate about, not necessarily a career progression that feels like work. Walking dogs or reading to children or helping the elderly are some of the rewarding work that will put you in touch with others that feel the same way about that area of interest.

Have work send you on a delivery to the middle of no where and arrive the same time the customers daughter does... worked for me

Go for it. I find many guys are shy. And the other half are... I'm sure we can all fill in that blank. I like a guy who can grab some courage and go for it. If not..u never know! I've took the courage and went after what I thought was impossible and I was praised for my guts. Go for it. Here's lotsa fish in sea...just try... I was at 7 the other day and the one worker said this guy comes in all the time and asks about u and ur name...lol..like just ask me!!! We're not at all stuck up and snobby. .or taken...just go for it

get together this evening to meet people. I completely understand where you are coming from, I am in the same age range and it can be difficult meeting people, that goes beyond small talk. Maybe come out to the walking group, you never know who you could meet.

I am also single, male 40, pretty charming but also very shy. I'm trying the online dating thing as well, but I am always open to meeting new friends

From a female perspective I have the same problem! In a female dominated workplace its hard to meet anyone and wouldn't want to date from work anyways. My hobbies don't seem to give me any results either although i am into a lot of co-ed activities. Tried the online thing and hated it. It is incredibly frustrating and honestly i have just given up on the idea altogether. Sorry I don't have any helpful advice here but just wanted you to know its not just you in that situation

meeting new people I'm a guy in early 30s wouldn't mind meeting some new people to go see car shows with, play pool or laser tag etc etc. I am quite shy as well, but no problem in saying hello or small talk its when conversation happens I get a tad nervous.

What does pm stand for?

I too am a 45 year old single female who has used POF a few times but always came out cringing because the men say they are this, but turn out to be that and it's devastating to say the least.  
 
I was just thinking - I've seen many, many posts about being single and how to meet people.  
 
I'm curious - has anyone thought of starting an actual dating business? Like, I remember they used to have something in the paper awhile back. Can't remember the exact name, but Candle-something-or-other?  
 
I've also heard of something called Prairie Singles (?) and they have dances. Me? I've never attended because I would have no support to go with me. (Hard to go to a social event alone.)  
 
Anyhoo was just a thought. We all seem to be looking, we all seem to be having a hard time with it, and would be nice to have a place to go to that's business-like, thorough in their research on folks, and is somewhat confidential, and always professional.

I'm a 26 year single male, work hard, problem is I keep to myself a lot & have an introverted personality, so when my brain is telling me to go out, my gut is telling me "Just stay home", also seems like women need a resume (no offence to decent women). I've been burned twice in the last 2 months & all ambition just kind of left, any decent single women.. point me in the right direction.

Honestly speaking, 2 burns is nothing. I get burned everyday and there is a reason why I'm brown you know  
 
Evolutionarily speaking, women needs security and resume is the way to go now I guess.  
 
Historically speaking, they say women can never be too careful. We get broken heart for a night and women get sexual assault for life when we/them take risks.  
 
Fact is, we know we are one heck of a gentleman. Reality is, they don't know that. So, we got no choice other than to just keep trying.  
 
My grandpa once said "our efforts may fail, but never fail to make an effort". Of course, he said for doing Math, but I find calculus much easier compared to women

If I had an answer for this thread, I wouldn't be single lol.

I am in my 30's as well, single female and it is difficult to meet someone in this town. My suggestion would be to keep saying hello to woman. You never know perhaps one time that woman will be just as equally attracted to you and it will go from there!~ Men hardly come up and say hello to me, they will stare all evening at me but never just say a simple hello. You'll be surprised at how far it can go. Best of Luck to you!

Yes I think men should work up the courage to say hello to women but in this day and age- really? With everyone wanting to be equal I'd really encourage women to go up to men and say hello also... what do you have to lose?

A lot of dating has turned to online sources. It'd be nice to go back to when men used to just strike a conversation or say hello. As a girl, even if I am not interested it still brightens my day if a guy asks you me out or try's to flirt/strike up a conversation. Come on girls admit it....it's true.  
Never be afraid to say hi. If a girl is rude in her rejection consider it a blessing you figured out her true colours quickly.

I have had no luck either. My job has alot to do with it when it comes to trying to go out on weekends though. I work at Sobeys and work pretty much every weekend. I have tried the POF website as well and no luck. Have had nothing but scammers on that site. I am a 39 year old father of 1, stable job, love sports, but can be a little shy.

Try Match.com! POF is nothing but a waste of time.
