Seriously, a tip is an earned benefit that is only earned when you go over and above your paid position.
No one tips the cashier that is personable and carefully bags and places your groceries in the cart.
No one tips the flooring salesperson that drives samples across town to your home rather than you coming into the store.
No one tips the salesperson who goes up ladders to peel the one sweater in the store that you just have to have becuase it looks so much different up in the lights (even though it is identical to those on a lower shelf)
What about the guys that get you right in to get your winter tires switched without an appointment? I know their tips are few and far between.
Tips should never be expected or automatically added to any bill. (I don't even agree large parties should have an automatic tip added) To me, if you have done something outside of your job description or gone the extra mile - then you deserve something extra.
We had absolutley awful restaurant service this past weekend. That should not be rewarded. This restaurant had lots of staff walking around, but they were so self absorbed they were not even performing basic tasks like checking for low drinks or anything.
Did anyone tip the guys and girls at the fair this weekend if they got you on and off rides quickly and pleasantly? Or the food truck people?
Where does it end?
