    Looking for suggestions on hotels in SAN Francisco in summer? We have never been so would also be interested in fun things to do but our main focus right now is finding a hotel in a good area of the city that doesn’t cost $500 a night!

    I can't specifically recommend any particular hotels here, but there are some interesting discussions about this same topic on the San Francisco Travel Forum on Trip Advisor. Might be a start to peruse the forum questions. Acquaintances visited this beautiful City a few short years ago for a family holiday and said it was a fantastic place to visit.

    on the corner of Lombard and Van ness  
    good location , under ground parking, close to major attractions, hop on hop off trolley just a block away  
    think we paid in the 170 range a couple years ago

    used Airbnb when we went earlier this year and really liked that. Much cheaper than a hotel room too! I’d recommend driving north along the coast (I forget the hiway number) and also driving the Avenue of Giants through the redwood forest.

    Hotels downtown or at the Wharf are very expensive. You can wait to book and hope the prices go down but it is likely to be $400/night or so if you want something decent. That’s not luxury, just decent.
