Would love to escape this cold weather for at least a week and leave from Brandon. Looking at Mexico or any place warm and see it’s always a 9-12 hour connection layover. Anyone have any better experiences out of Brandon? What’s there to do at Calgary Airport let alone for 9 hours?

We did Honolulu out of Brandon a little over a month ago.  
Connected through Calgary (just over an hour) and Vancouver (just over 2 hours) to get there. The flight back was a nice simple Honolulu to Calgary to Brandon with about 2 hours to connect. On both ends we had the perfect amount of time to do customs, though imagine if one of those flights comes in a little behind one might have to sweat a little bit!  
 
Havent checked to see if they're still booking those identical connections at decent rates, but I know that the options really differed depending on day of the week. In our case we flew out of Brandon on the afternoon flight on a Tuesday and came back home on a Wednesday (was Thursday afternoon by the time we were home so maybe still not the kind of long travel day you had in mind?).  
 
As far as what to do in the Calgary airport. Stromboli. Lots and lots of stromboli if your heart can handle it

I thought you had done extensive research and were going to Puerto Morelos?? What happened?  
 
Flights out of Brandon without 9 hour layover.

I didn’t know you were so concerned with where I want to go this year . Extensive research means just that. Keep researching until I get the deal I want and maybe just maybe I will be able to pull off two trips. April is considered low season in many places. Prices for hotels drop up to 50 %. Would be nice to go from Brandon but don’t want to waste a day on connection time. Was in Puerto Morales 20 years ago when it was just a one street fishing village of 1000 people. Now the population is 10000 people. Tulum might be a better option.

Ha. Don't get so defensive. I am not concerned I just enjoy travel and follow most of the threads. I remember you saying you were going to Puerto Morelos and wanted advice where to get money. Sorry for asking what happened. I will remember not to help you in the future. Have fun with your trips. P.S. if you're looking for a "deal" you might want to do better research on Tulum...

In my original post all I wanted to do was find some options from the Brandon airport . You don’t have to help me I’ve been travelling for 45 years . I do a lot of research and ask a lot of questions mostly to people who have been there and done that. I have never been to Tulum so yes I will do more research. I am retired so I can come and go as I please with little or no restrictions. I want to go to as many places as I can with the time I have left .

You can get to Palm Springs or Phoenix by noon or 2 pm at the latest through Calgary. If you like sun and golf go to palm: if you are not a golfer go to Phoenix, there is lots of live entertainment there (hockey, basketball etc) and good shopping. Spring training baseball is also going on in the Phoenix area.

Have you found any days on average being better than others to fly to Palm or Phoenix out of Brandon... farewise or connection wise?

We normally only go once a year over Christmas. We do book early before the flights fill up and get pricey. Both places are fantastic for different reasons. It is awesome to get somewhere like Phoenix by noon from Brandon! That two hour drive from winnipeg after a vacation is not fun!

February 2nd we took the 6AM flight out of Brandon, a 1 hour stop over in Calgary and then a 6 hour flight to sunny Montego Bay.  
 
Let me know if that's an option. I can run a few places to stay by you.
