From what I have read, it sounds like the US Boarder is still closed to travellers, even if you have your 2 shot card. Is that right? Has anyone tried to get across?

learn regulations for every state that you are going to as rules between them vary  
 
make sure that you can get back into Canada before you go. Especially if you can't afford to isolate for 14 days.  
 
Many people don't understand that there has to be 14 days after the 2nd shot before you are considered fully vaccinated. One of the reasons were turned back at border.
