Hard to keep up with what’s working and what’s not these days. For example if I decide to fly South this winter to either Mexico or the US and I’m double vaccinated do I still have to get nose jammed for $300 or do I have to worry about that? Two people travelling together that’s $600 which is the price of an airline ticket and would be even more for a family. Also if that’s the case where does that get done at the arriving airport? I have asked around and most people aren’t sure?

It is still $300 a person to get back into Canada air or ground. So yes $600 for a couple and depending on the time of day you are tested you may have to stay another night in a hotel (90-139$) to get the results !  
Just not worth it IMO  
The Americans are upset that Canada is making that manditory as most all who usually shop south of the border will not go.

Ok well that’s a dealbreaker for me. Guess I just stay home for another year.

Think of it this way: you need a covid test before you can board a plane back to cdn. Your results for 1 passenger is positive. You now can't board the plane and need to isolate for 10-14 days. You pay for new flights home. You go back for another test now a second person who has been in your isolation tests positive and you need to stay where you are for another 10 -14 days. You now need to rebook and pay for another flight. Your travel insurance has run out and there is no coverage for the rebooking or the hotel costs nor the extra food costs. To change one flight from mexico to vancouver was 1000 / person for us. Then from vancouver to wpg was an extra 500 each. Those extra costs were in addition to what we already paid.....even if you are negative, if the results are not back in time you will have to rebook your flights and extend your travel insurance. Go fund me pages should not be for people who go without a back up plan... maybe wait until thongs change or have lots of room on your visa.

You got vaccinated to help prevent acquiring such a serious case of Covid that you end up in ICU on a ventilator, or worse - dying. And by avoiding an ICU bed, it will be there for someone else who needs it because of covid or other reasons like heart attack or trauma. Or someone who is on a wait list for surgery, but who can't have it until there is an ICU bed available for their recovery.  
So thank you for getting it, to help not only yourself, but those of us around you as well!

and the cost will no doubt keep a lot of people at home.  
Even though Canada lifted the ban on non-essential travel Dr. Tam is advising against travelling for non essential reasons. The doctor also said that outside of Canada covid is running rampant but are we in any better position?  
Certainly can't see a ton of people going across the line for cheaper groceries/other goods now.

It is o.k to do test and pay for it, but the cost of test is ridiculous. It is just money grab from clinics. Some people going overseas to visit their old parents after few years and they have to pay for pricy tickets already. If the test was range of $50 no problem, but $300 is just showing that how greedy some people are. They just get whatever can get out of travelers. Making it expensive to prevent nonessential travels is just aan excuse to be able to make the cost of the test high.

Can't you get an NAAT test? I heard it's around $50 at a pharmacy like Walgreen's or CVS. You might even be able to get it for free. https://flytrippers.com/getting-covid-19-test-usa-for-canadians/

Some countries have mentioned PCR test only. Plus the test must be done 72 hours before arriving , With all long layovers, and couple of flights, if happens to have one flight delay by the airline, The results will not even be accepted .  
And need to do this test going and coming back to Canada if the arrival country need the result of the test.

Anyone look at the cost to cross the border on nov 8

Wheat City Clinic is now doing Antigen testing for people flying into the United States.  
Cost is $89

Dr Tam is recommending that no PCR test is required for returning Canadians who did a short trip. I think 72hours. Shopping etc.  
 
Federal government is looking again at this.  
 
Canada is not necessarily the only country requiring this. Check on all countries you are going to for their rules.  
 
Unfortunately this is the new future for awhile until pandemic is under control everywhere.
