Wanting to take my wife on a cruise trip this summer. Don't have a specific destination in mind yet. Just seeing if someone can suggest a good cruise destination/company/package, from personal experience? We would be departing from Winnipeg, hoping for July.

If you're going in a summer cruise I'd highly recommend ALASKA. Leave out of Vancouver or Seattle on Celebrity.  
 
One of our best cruises ever and we've had a few

that would have to be the Alaska cruise!  
 
I highly recommend Royal Carribean cruise line.  
 
excursions are expensive but well worth it.

Alaska was amazing. We went on Holland America.

Alaska is tough to beat. Went Princess 3 years ago and going Holland America this year all out of Vancouver. Need to book early and not cheap. We did 7 up and 7 back mid June. Weather was warm and 1 drizzle in 14 days. 2000 passengers and mostly grey tops. So relaxing but a balcony is a must. No one would be disapointed.

I've personally never gone to Alaska on a cruise (YET!) but I've only heard amazing things from numerous people that have gone on cruises there!

I've been on half a dozen cruises, none with Princess Cruise Lines, though. I've heard good things. I do recommend the cruise critic website whenever you are looking into any cruise.

When I worked on the cruise ships as a DJ & Cruise Staff member,(RCCL)  
I noticed the shorter the cruise the younger the guests.  
My personal favourite was cruising around New Zealand. The shore excursions were very active, white water rafting,jet boat tours, sailing and scuba diving.  
 
I would recommend selecting a country you would like to really explore and end you cruise at that location and fly at a later date, as the time at Port is limited.

We are going on cruise #11 next week! All Carnival! If it ain't broke don't fix it and if you want to go in summer, yes, Alaska is your best bet! Carnival has the best bang for the buck and you will sail out of Vancouver, Seattle, or LA. Check it out! You will NOT be disappointed on a Carnival FunShip!!!!
