I would like to hear from people that have been in Halifax regarding best places to go and do in Halifax. Is it good time to visit there around end of the June? Where to go and what to do in 3 days? Are Hop on hop off buses good choice to visit most places?  
I will probably be by myself and have no car. So which hotel do you recommend to stay (moderate accommodation) and how to get around to be able to use the time as effective as possible.

We stayed down by the harbour and there were lots of restaurants, bars and touristy type stuff to do within a short walk. I cant remember the hotel either (not a lot of help) but we had the choice of a couple and the rates were pretty reasonable.

casino nova scotia is a great place, on the waterfront and close to all the down town sites. citadel hill is beautiful, the public gardens are pretty, the halifax harbour hopperis a cool boat ride.there are a few bus tours you can take, if you go to the casino to stay ask for a lady named emelye she will help you find anything youre looking for have fun, its one of the best places in Canada!!

I'm originally from Halifax. The waterfront/downtown area will definitely keep you busy. I also recommend visiting the Citadel. If you time it so you're there at noon you can watch the firing of the noon canon. The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic down on the waterfront is also pretty awesome. They've got particularly good displays and artifacts from the Titanic and the Halifax explosion. The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia is also wonderful. Maude Lewis' entire house is inside the museum, she truly painted every single surface in that tiny place. You could also do a Harbour Hopper tour. These are tours done on amphibious vehicles. You first drive around the downtown then right into the Harbour! There are also a variety of boat tours of the Harbour to choose from. I'm also going to add a plug for my favourite Halifax Pub "The Old Triangle" on Prince Street I believe. They have live music most nights and on Sunday afternoons they usually have an open session, basically any who wants brings along their instrument and they just play Celtic stuff. Up on Spring Garden road you should take a walk through the public gardens. Beautiful Victorian style gardens. Everything I've mentioned so far is within the waterfront/downtown area and within walking distance of each other. A little further afield you might look for a bus tour out to Peggy's Cove. Beautiful spot just for heaven's sake obey the safety signs and STAY OFF THE BLACK ROCKS! Basically these are the wet looking rocks meaning the waves can come up that high unexpectedly. It seems every year people who just don't get it are swept off and have to be rescued. Don't be that person!

Can't remember where we stayed but we went around the same time as you are planning to for about 3 full days. We went to Citadel Hill, the pier/immigration museum, the maritime museum, went on a boat ride around the harbour, deep sea fishing, toured around some of the old cemeteries, Alexander Keith's, played some trivia at a pub by the harbour, walked through the large park (can't remember the name), went to the indoor farmers market near the old pier, checked out the local brewery there as well.  
 
We left at 6am on Canada Day and wish we could have stayed another day. On Canada Day, one of the Canadian Navy's big ships docks in the harbour and they open it to the public. HMCS Charlottetown maybe? That's something I feel I really missed out on
