'Sod' turned on Maryland Park School construction

Posted by Adam in Education, 4/25, 10:36 AM

A sod turning ceremony was conducted this morning to mark construction of Brandon’s soon-to-be newest school at the intersection of 9th street and Maryland Avenue.

Those in attendance included Premier Brian Pallister, Mayor Rick Chrest, Brandon School Board Chair Linda Ross, Brandon East MLA Len Isleifson, Brandon West MLA Reg Helwer and several Brandon councillors, school board and parent council reps.

Work has been ongoing at the site since late February as the project moves toward planned opening in time for the 2020 school year. When complete the 65,660 square foot school will welcome 450 students from kindergarten to grade eight.

Last month in a post in this section an aerial photo was shared of initial work on the development, which has continued to progress quite well in the weeks since.

The division recently announced the appointment of Barbara Miller as the first principal for Maryland Park. Further ongoing updates are being posted at https://www.bsd.ca/OurSchools/marylandparkschool/Pages/default.aspx
