With construction well underway on Brandon’s eventual PetSmart location, further details have been learned this week on plans for the store that is to occupy more than 13,000 square foot of space at 18th Street and Richmond Ave previously home to a Shoppers Drug Mart.
A spokesperson for PetSmart has brought more clarity this week to the expected timeline, sharing that the Brandon store is aiming for an opening of late February or early March of 2020. Previously it was known that early 2020 was targeted.
The store itself its said will be similar to the franchise’s Winnipeg offerings, which include a variety of national and proprietary brands as well as in-store grooming services.
It hasn’t been learned how many the retailer will employ in the community, however PetSmart’s website currently lists openings for 12 different roles for Brandon. Among those postings is for a Pet Trainer/dog trainer, giving a further window into services that are likely to be offered.
Separately, an ad placed in the eBrandon classifieds this past weekend for the position of Store Manager gives further context to the intended role that PetSmart intends to play in the community at large with references to adoption events and helping homeless pets find forever homes.
eBrandon first reported in late June of PetSmart's plans for a presence in the local market. PetSmart maintains over 1600 stores including four others in Manitoba in Winnipeg.
