The votes are in! New school has mascot, colours, logo inspiration

Posted by Adam in Education, 2/28/2020

The feedback is in and Brandon’s in-development school has unveiled the elements that will make up its identity when it opens its doors to staff and students this coming fall.

Based on voting and feedback from its soon-to-be students and school community, Maryland Park shared on Friday evening via its social media accounts that the school will be known collectively as the Maryland Park Lions with an orange & black colour scheme and an in-development logo to match:

In giving students, staff and parents the unique chance to help choose the school's identity, an open-ended survey had been distributed in early February asking for ideas that would lead to a mascot, logo and colours. Two weeks later a handful of different finalists were shared along with a chance to vote on the final selection from options that also included Dolphins, Tigers, Wolves and Panthers.

The logo drawing shown will serve as an inspiration that will be used by the good folks in the Crocus Plains Graphic Arts Department to create a final logo design to be unveiled in the coming weeks.

Construction at the Maryland Avenue location began last Winter and has proceeded through the Winter of 2019-2020 on-schedule. By September, 450 'Lions' between grades Kindergarten to Grade Eight will join the likes of the Linden Lanes Leopards, Earl Oxford Titans, Meadows Mustangs and Riverheights Royals in the Brandon School Division.

Updated: 2/29, 2:00pm. Further details on logo.
