An upcoming 1st Street commercial development met with much fanfare when it was first learned of nearly one year ago is one step closer to a reality with recently shared plans that a start to construction is planned for this summer.
Beyond featuring a Tim Hortons restaurant and drive-thru as its initial tenant, when work does start the makeup of the development will differ from what came to light last year. Previous plans to include a gas bar/convenience store alongside Tims at the development at the intersection of 1st Street and Richmond Avenue are no longer the case, to be replaced with an additional larger 8000 square feet of commercial leasing unit space that is available for lease to anywhere from one large tenant to four smaller businesses that occupy space adjacent to what one can assume will be another busy Tims.
Construction will be undertaken by Brandon’s Crane Steel Structures, who plan to begin work in July with a current expectation for completion of early 2021 in what has generally been an environment of uncertainty for the construction industry amidst the ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic. That early 2021 time is the current target for what will be the city’s sixth Tim Hortons location as well as availability of the development’s remaining space to future would-be tenants.

Crane Steel has recently completed a 10,000 square foot commercial development on 14th Street East in Brandon. The company is this Spring moving onto a second 10,000 square foot phase in that development.
