South End Timber Mart (South End Lumber) is looking for a qualified Crane Operator to join our team!
The Crane Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and accurate operation of a material handling crane to load, unload, and deliver building materials. This role supports yard operations, delivery functions, and customer service while ensuring all work is completed safely and in accordance with company standards.
A Crane Operator?s responsibilities consist of the following:
- Safely operate crane equipment to load, unload, and place materials in accordance with company procedures, manufacturer specifications, and applicable safety regulations.
- Assist in the accurate loading of customer orders, ensuring materials are handled carefully and meet South End Timber Mart?s quality standards.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of crane and associated equipment; complete required inspection logs and report deficiencies.
- Conduct daily preventive maintenance, including lubrication, greasing, fueling, fluid checks, and maintaining equipment cleanliness (interior and exterior).
- Ensure proper load securement and weight distribution in compliance with transportation and safety standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area in the yard and around equipment.
- Work closely with yard staff, drivers, and sales personnel to coordinate order fulfillment and delivery schedules.
- Communicate clearly with customers during loading/unloading to ensure safe site conditions and customer satisfaction.
- Follow all company safety policies, safe work procedures, and Occupational Health & Safety regulations at all times.
- Assist with general yard duties, including material handling, inventory organization, and housekeeping when not operating the crane.
- Perform heavy lifting and manual labour as required (must be able to lift up to 100 lbs comfortably).
- Operate additional equipment (e.g., forklift, skid steer) ? training provided
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Applicants are required to:
- Hold and maintain a valid driver?s license (Class 3 required)
- Be comfortable working outside in a variety of weather conditions.
- Communicate effectively in English.
- Be able to lift and move heavy materials consistently throughout their shift.
- Be comfortable working at heights.
- Participate in a rotating schedule for Saturday shifts with the other yard staff (employees scheduled to work on a Saturday will be offered an alternate day off during the week).
