theres a number of factors actually. have you spoken to your employer about the medical leave issue? do you have enough hours to receive ei sick benefits, do you have a doctors note? how long do you need to be off? ei sick if you have the required i believe 600 hours takes up to 6 weeks to start receiving pymts. your first week is like a deductible you are not paid for(used to be 2). ei sick benefits are good for up to 15 weeks, you apply online same as regular ei except you click on the dot thats for sick. you go online or call in your weeks the same as reg ei except the question "are you ready and willing to work?" you say no
