Right to privacy? Not according to the bank

K so I have been dealing with the same bank now for about 7 years. I have never had a problem until today.
So I head into the bank with my paycheque, wait in line, get to the teller and let her know I need to cash a cheque, deposit X amount and X amount in cash please. Go through the usual steps, insert card into tellers swipe machine, blah blah blah. Teller takes cheque, looks at me and asks what kind of cheque it is. I tell her payroll.
She enters in whatever on computer... then asks for my employers name, and my job description. I say to her why would you need to know my job description? She gives me a "look" and says we just need to know. I then get a little peeved, said, why would you need to know my job description to cash a paycheque. She then kinda glares at me, clicks a couple things on the screen, goes and talks to someone in the back, then comes back to inform me that she has put a hold on my account!!
So I am now pi$$ed right off, I go talk to the manager and basically tell her that what is going on is absolute BS, I have been cashing paycheques for the last 7 years, never had a problem and today of all days, christmas season to top it off, they decide they are putting a hold on my account. Long story short, because I refused to give her my job description, They have now put holds on my account on any cheques that are to go through it.
WTF does what I do have to do with cashing my payroll?? And do I not have a right to my privacy when it comes to job descriptions?
So now I guess I will be looking for a new bank to deal with. Funny thing is when I went to a certain credit union and told the teller what happened she was shocked. Plain out told me that would never happen at thier bank.
