They can write anything they want down on paper at labour standards but truthfully it seems to be a waste of ink: I've been dealing with sexual harassment from my employer for months and feel like there is nothing I can do about it. Being in an industry that isn't 9-5 leaves it open to him just not giving me the work. It's suck it up and deal With it, or starve. Why even have it as WHS if they can't do anything for you anyway " |

is against the law according to your Canadian Constitutional rights...all you need is to get a lawyer or even do your own leg work, write down the infractions and the statutes that disallow harassment in the work place and give it to your manager...they cannot retaliate for the consequences will be even worse for them. This whole attitude of suck it up and deal with it, is not an option, because you are not only protecting your own ass but others that you may work with.
I myself went head to head with the President of a well known group here in Brandon, while I was on sick leave after having an operation, I had numerous people text me that I worked with saying that there was still so much verbal, physical and sexual harassment going on, but they were scared of what would happen if they said anything. So being the kind hearted person I am I scheduled a meeting with the president and the general manager of the place of business I worked for...told them what was going on in detail...the president slid a blank piece of paper towards me and asked me for my resignation!! I declined, and said no, because they couldn't fire me while I was on sick leave, again something that's against the law...I stuck to my guns, gave them the proper information pertaining to the laws of harassment, and before I knew it, many managers were fired. and I was thanked immensely by my coworkers for sticking up for them. I never did it for the thanks. I did it because I believe in integrity and standing up for yourself and others in need.
Just because some of the managers or assistant managers think they have absolute power, means nothing, they are jump basically uninformed and under educated and think they know it all and that everyone working under them are stupid. EDUCATE YOURSELF!!!! Because believe it or not Education is free, its called a library or a quick consultation with a lawyer that deals in employment law.
