| | Fishin Guy said "We all created this. I have seen places like McDonalds in the states close only for drive through due to the workers not wanting to work a long weekend. I have a shop of 6. Once I had 50% of my workforce on some excuse missing work. How you explain to customers you cannot meet deadlines, yet hire more everyone complains they don't get enough hours. I have spoken with other companies and it isn't just me trying to find workers that will work longer than a payday. The checkouts I bet 99% of time are always ready for work. Training is reduced. Callins are reduced. Sick days are reduced. Yes payroll is reduced...but still costs maintenance and electricity to work. Those industries pay higher wages and I am sure till repair workers are still in Manitoba along with hydro.
My only beef with them is they seem low in the stores. I wish I could raise them up so I am not bending over so much. Just like ATM drive throughs in a truck. I just get out instead of trying to reach way down. " |

Your employee's obviously don't think there time is being compensated for enough, sounds like a motivation problem for your staff. Assuming these were probably min wage employee's who valued there free time or family time over working making somebody else money over a long weekend. (Risk vs Reward)
Self Checkouts are going to keep coming though, they aren't going to go away.
Shame because I refuse to use them, until they can scan everything in my shopping cart without having to call an employee over for assistance I'll just keep waiting in line to speak to a human being.
Checkouts are just the first to come, the next thing will be your fast food workers. If you think self checkouts suck! Wait until you go to order a burger from a robot instead of a person and it bluescreens half way through your order! Although I suppose some people will argue that is no different then ordering from current fast food workers...
